Schirmer Test Strip
The Schirmer Test Strip is used to measure tear secretion. Strips produced by ERC utilize a special filter paper placed on the outer one-third of the eye between the lower eyelid and the eye to measure tear flow. If the measurement on the strip after 5 minutes is less than 5 mm, it indicates dry eye; if it is more than 10 mm, it is considered normal. This test provides information about both basal and reflex tear secretion.
The Schirmer Test Strip is used to assess patient conditions such as:
- Climate, particularly cold and windy weather
- Allergies
- Infections
- Blocked tear ducts
- Complications from dry eyes
- Eye irritation
- Conjunctivitis (pink eye), and other related conditions.
Each box contains 100 sterile Schirmer Test Strips.
